Is heavy cotton good for tie dye?

While the results will not be as vibrant as they would be on a garment made from 100 percent cotton, cotton/polyester blends do work well for tie dye.

Can you tie dye 50% cotton 50% polyester?

Can I tie dye fabric that is 50% cotton and 50% polyester? You can use cotton blends, but the color will not be as vibrant as 100% natural fibers like cotton, silk and rayon.

Can you tie dye 60% cotton 40% polyester?

The only dye I recommend for tie-dyeing is a cool water fiber reactive dye, such as Procion dye. 60% cotton sweatshirts will not dye very brightly. You will get pastel colors that are 40% lighter than the usual colors, because the polyester will not take the dye.

How long should tie dye sit before rinsing?

Leave it tied up and leave it alone. Let the fabric sit for 2-24 hours. The longer you can let the fabric sit, the easier it will be to wash out loose dye from the fabric.

Do you tie dye shirts wet or dry?

You want the fabric to be wet (but not dripping) when you tie and dye. Two helpful tips are to wear gloves and to make sure that you secure all folds, regardless of which method you use, with rubber bands or one of the above tools. Also make sure you tie tightly.
