Tenancy confirmation letters are important documents and should be kept in a safe place as landlords and tenants, may need to refer to it during the tenancy or after the tenancy has ended. Landlords may use the confirmation letter as a receipt for payment of the registration fee, where appropriate.

What happens if you are not registered with PRTB?
Penalties for not registering a tenancy with the RTB Landlords who fail to register a tenancy may be fined up to €4,000 and face imprisonment for up to 6 months on conviction. A further penalty of €250 for each day of non-registration may be applied.

What is RTB registration?
The registration of tenancies enables the RTB to collect important data on the rental sector. It is also a key part of regulating and supporting the sector and ensuring that landlords and tenants are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
What length of notice must a landlord give?
Your landlord only needs to give ‘reasonable notice’ to quit. Usually this means the length of the rental payment period – so if you pay rent monthly, you’ll get one month’s notice.
How long does PRTB registration last?
Once a tenancy is registered it will remain in existence for the duration of the tenancy, subject to a maximum of four years. After a period of four years the tenancy must be re-registered with the PRTB.
What happens if you don’t register your property?
If your property isn’t registered, it doesn’t mean there is a problem with your ownership – it simply means there hasn’t been a transaction to trigger the requirement to register since it became compulsory for your area. This will have little or no effect on any sale of a property.
Can I email a tenancy notice?
A Notice to Quit served by email or text should be valid providing the Notice contains all the required information and has been received by the intended recipient. Many tenancy agreements specify how a Notice to Quit should be served so if in doubt, check your agreement.

- Dwelling Type (i.e. Whole of House/Apartment/Flat Bedrooms,

- Approximate Floor Area in Square Metres.
