What is sail trimming?
Sails are controlled by ‘trimming’ them, or adjusting the tension on a line known as a ‘sheet’ that is attached to the sail. Pulling the sheet in, or ‘sheeting in’ rotates the sail towards the centerline of the boat (closer to you). Trimming sails properly depends on whether or not you’re sailing upwind or downwind.

Ease until the sail begins to luff (bubble or backwind along its leading edge) then trim just enough to stop luffing. The mainsail will need to be eased further than you think. Don’t be afraid to let the sail out until it’s against the shrouds and spreaders (just make sure the boom vang is on tight enough).
Is a sail called a sheet?
In sailing, a sheet is a line (rope, cable or chain) used to control the movable corner(s) (clews) of a sail.
How much wind do you need to sail a Laser?
In the first case you’d want something around 10knots so you can get aquainted with the boat before capsizing it. How much should you weigh to sail a Laser?

What happens if you don’t shave before laser hair removal?
As we mentioned a little earlier, if you don’t shave before your appointment, the laser will singe the hair resulting in a burn to your skin. In addition, if the hair hasn’t been shaved properly, treatment will not be as effective, and it may result in small temporary grazes on the top layer of your skin.
Is there a way to trim a laser sail?
Laser Cunningham – How to Trim. On a Laser, you have only a few trim lines you can adjust during sailing. You can change the shape, and therefore the power, in your sail with the sheet, vang, outhaul, and Cunningham. Each option will change the draft (shape/ depth) of your sail, and therefore the power your sail will generate.
Why do you need to trim the top of your sail?
As we explain in the video, the Cunningham has the most influence on the top part of the sail. Therefore in strong winds, the Cunningham is one of the most important trim lines to set up your sail correctly. Flattening the top of the sail, means less power, where the wind has the most leverage to push your boat over.
How does a laser balanced sail boat work?
The second tool for sailing your Laser balanced is your rudder. You can use the rudder to counteract the disturbing variables like wind and water. When the wind direction changes slightly, use the rudder to change course so the pressure in the sail remains the same and with that your boat remains balanced.
