What is the difference between Legere classic and signature?
The Classic comes from the first Légère prototype made in 1998 and is still beloved today! This stiffer reed produces a rich and dark sound. The Signature is a complete reinvention of our Classic reed. It is cut from a stiffer yet thinner material which produces a warm, rich tone in all registers.

How long do Legere reeds last?

The use of a synthetic material ensures the Légère reeds last much longer than their natural counterparts. Players can get anywhere between two and six months of use out of them, depending on intensity of use. With proper care, they could last even longer!

Can you adjust Legere reeds?
Legere reeds come as-is. It is NOT recommended to make adjustments to the Legere reeds but you may have success by clipping a very small amount from the tip or scraping in the heart (information taken directly from Legere). It is easier to adjust the reed by dipping it in hot water.
Are 2.5 reeds good?
Thinner reeds (between 2 and 2.5) are good for beginners since it vibrates more easily and it has a brighter tone; preferred among Jazz players! On the other hand, thicker reeds with a size of 4 to 5 are harder and need more skill to sounds, but the tone is a lot bolder.
Why are reeds expensive?
So yes, reeds are expensive to buy. But clearly, they’re also very expensive to produce. The process takes years, AND it requires large amounts of land located in a very expensive part of the world. It’s labor intensive and Employees in France actually cost a fortune.

The reeds are very well-balanced. Since the reeds I received are of different strengths, I don’t think I can comment conclusively on consistency from reed to reed, but they strike me as having identical playing characteristics other than a predictable difference in resistance between the strengths (which isn’t always the case with cane reeds).

Which is better, a cane reed or a Legere Reed?
These new Legere Signature reeds are quite a bit better than the synthetics reeds I played in the past that is for sure. In general, the Legere played surprisingly well throughout the range of the horn. The synthetic reed seemed to vibrate and buzz more on my lower lip than a cane reed (at least that is how it felt to my lower lip.)
