The regen cycle uses a bit more fuel by definition. It injects extra fuel to heat the exhaust system. While the regen is happening, your diesel engine may show reduced performance.
How does the 6.7 Powerstroke Regen?

Guess mine is generic lol. Sure would be nice to have though. One of the codes on the spreadsheet turns on a digital readout of the transmission and coolant temperatures above the dash gauges. Works if you have the instrument display pictured below.
Is the F350 Super Duty compatible with operator commanded regeneration?
So I picked up a 2017 xlt f350 super duty. Come to find out it does not come standard with the operator commanded regeneration. Had I done a little bit more research prior to the purchase I would have specified this option.
