Why is it called MerleFest?

Originally hosted by folk music legend and Grammy Award-winner Doc Watson until his passing in 2012, Merlefest was named after Doc’s late son, Eddie Merle Watson, who died in a tragic tractor accident. This will be the first Merlefest since Doc Watson’s death.

We remain hopeful Merlefest 2021 will happen. Dates are set for September 16-19, 2021. The Y will follow the schedule of Wilkes Community College ticket sales for opening camping reservations. Currently ticket sales are set to start June 10, so we will open camping reservations at that time.
